Look at the right hand side of your logbook page. "how many hours available today" "how many hours worked today" "how many hours left to work tomorrow" There's your recap.

The recap page is for information purposes only. The recap is simply put there so that the driver can keep track of his or her accumulated time and to ensure that they are in compliance with the HOS regs. If a driver calculates their hours and their log book is audited by the DOT then the officer is more likely to give the driver the benefit of the doubt since he/she has done their due diligence but if the driver doesn’t do the recap and the officer is forced to calculate the hours then the officer will tend to be less conciliatory. If a driver is in violation of the HOS rules because they didn’t do their recap then it is all on them and they’ll have to pay the piper. If you only work 9 to 5 Monday to Friday then you can assume that you are in compliance, but if you don’t then it is in your best interest to ensure that you are in compliance by doing the recap. Drivers who don’t do the recap will eventually get caught anyway because they won’t know if they are in compliance or not and probably aren’t.

The RESON the recap is not required is becouse it is only ther for the drivers knowlege not the D.O.T. They just put your info into a computer and it does the work for them. The recap is for the driver to know how many hours of service will be gained each day for over the road drivers who are actualy on the road for more than two weeks at a time.

the recap is not required but,one thing i learned after many years of driving is that if you re log book is neat and complete it will not be looked to closely at it in a d.o.t road side.

It lets the people that want to work harder to do so. If you are worked more than this against your will then you need to file a complaint. This does open a window for more 18 wheeler accidents, but how often does that happen when it's the drivers fault?
